Does the number need a country code?
Yes. Always include the + and country code (e.g. +44, +91, +1) or the chat will not open.
What if I leave the message empty?
The chat simply opens blank and the customer types their own message — nothing is pre-typed.
Can I send a file with it?
WhatsApp links can only pre-fill text, so a true attachment isn't possible. Attach a file above and its download link is added to your message — anyone in the chat can tap it. Files auto-delete after about 24 hours.
Will it work without the WhatsApp app?
On phones without WhatsApp, the link opens WhatsApp Web in the browser instead.
Do I need a WhatsApp Business account?
No — any WhatsApp number works. Business accounts add catalogs and auto-replies on top, but the QR itself is identical.
