Why SIPs work
- Time beats timing — the 20-year row dwarfs the 10-year one. Duration is the biggest lever you control.
- Growth snowballs — in later years, annual gains can exceed your entire yearly investment.
- Step-up supercharges it — a 10% yearly increase typically adds 25–40% to the final corpus. Try it in Advanced.
- Small is fine — ₹5,000/month at 12% for 20y ≈ ₹50L corpus from ₹12L invested.
SIP Calculator — FAQ
What return should I assume?
For equity funds over 10+ years, 10–12% is a reasonable conservative band; historically broad markets have done better, but plan on the lower half so surprises are pleasant ones.
What does the step-up do?
It models increasing your SIP every year — typically with your salary. Because the increases land early and compound for decades, even 10%/year step-up can add 25–40% to the final corpus versus a flat SIP.
Does this include inflation?
The headline number is nominal. Tick "inflation-adjusted value" in Advanced to see the corpus in today's money — ₹50L in 20 years is worth roughly ₹15.5L today at 6% inflation. That's the number to plan targets against.
How does target mode work?
Flip the Mode tab, enter your goal — retirement, house down payment, education — and it solves for the monthly SIP that reaches it. With step-up on, the starting SIP drops significantly.
