On top of the EMI — goes straight to principal.

What moves your EMI

  • Tenure is the interest killer — 25L @ 8.6% costs ~₹12.7L interest over 20y, but ~₹18.8L over 30y.
  • Rate shopping pays — even 0.5% lower on a home loan saves lakhs over the tenure.
  • Prepay early — extra payments in the first years hit principal directly. The prepayment field in Advanced shows exactly how much you'd save.
  • Use affordability mode — start from what you can actually pay monthly, then work backwards to a realistic loan.

EMI Calculator — FAQ

What is EMI exactly?

Equated Monthly Installment — the fixed monthly payment that fully repays the loan by the end of tenure. Each payment is part interest on the outstanding balance, part principal. Early payments are mostly interest; late ones mostly principal.

Which is better — shorter tenure or lower EMI?

Depends on your cash flow. Shorter tenure minimizes total interest but strains the monthly budget. A common strategy: take a longer tenure for safety, then prepay aggressively when you can.

How does the prepayment savings work?

Every extra rupee above the EMI goes straight to reducing the principal — so future months charge interest on a smaller balance. Even ₹2,000/month extra on a 25L home loan typically cuts years off the tenure and saves lakhs in interest. The field in Advanced computes your exact numbers.

Does this work for car and personal loans too?

Yes — the math is identical. Pick the loan-type tab for typical amounts and rates, then fine-tune.
