General

Is QRForge really free?

Yes — every tool, every export, forever. There's no premium tier, no trial, no watermark and no hidden limits. We don't even ask for an account.

Do I need to sign up?

No. No email, no password, no account anywhere. Open a tool, generate, download — done.

Do the QR codes ever expire?

No. Our codes are static — the data lives inside the code itself, not on our servers. Even if this website disappeared tomorrow, every code you've printed keeps working forever. The single exception: File → QR links die after ~24 hours because the files behind them are auto-deleted.

Is my data private?

Yes. All generation happens inside your browser — your phone numbers, Wi-Fi passwords, contacts and messages are never transmitted anywhere. The only data that ever leaves your device is a file you explicitly choose to upload (see the File → QR section below).

Can I use the codes commercially?

Yes — products, menus, packaging, invoices, business cards, wedding invites. Personal or commercial, no attribution required, they're yours.

Does it work offline?

All generators work offline after the first visit (the page is cached in your browser). Only file uploads need an internet connection, for obvious reasons.

QR basics & printing

My QR won't scan — what's wrong?

Run this checklist: ① Contrast — dark foreground on light background (inverted codes fail on many scanners). ② Size — print at least 2 × 2 cm. ③ Quiet zone — keep the white border (margin ≥ 2) intact; don't crop it. ④ Surface — glossy, curved or fabric surfaces hurt scanning. Always test-scan from a real phone before mass printing.

How big should I print my QR code?

Rule of thumb: scan distance ÷ 10. If people will scan from 1 meter away, print the code at least 10 cm wide. Counter-top codes: 3–5 cm is fine.

Which error correction level should I pick?

M (Medium) is the default and fine for clean prints. Pick Q or H for codes that will get worn, smudged, small, or printed on textured surfaces. Note: higher levels make the pattern denser.

PNG or SVG — which should I download?

SVG is vector — infinitely sharp at any size, ideal for print shops, vinyl cutting and banners. PNG is the universal pick for documents, slides, email and web.

Can I use custom colors?

Yes, every tool has color pickers. Just keep strong contrast (near-black on near-white is safest) and avoid inverting light/dark — many scanners reject inverted codes.

WhatsApp QR

Does the phone number need a country code?

Yes — always include + and the country code (e.g. +44, +91, +1), or the chat won't open.

How does "attach a file" work on the WhatsApp tool?

WhatsApp links can only pre-fill text, not real attachments. When you attach a file, it uploads to temporary storage and its download link is added to your pre-filled message — anyone in the chat can tap it. The link is public and the file auto-deletes after ~24 hours, so never attach private documents.

UPI payment QR

Which apps can pay my UPI QR?

All of them — PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM, Amazon Pay and every bank's UPI app. One QR speaks the shared UPI standard; you never need separate codes per app.

Does QRForge take a cut of my payments?

No. The tool simply encodes your UPI ID into the standard upi://pay format. Money moves directly from the payer's bank to yours — we're not part of the transaction and charge nothing. Send yourself a ₹1 test payment before printing to confirm everything is correct.

Why won't the UPI QR open from my iPhone camera?

Apple's camera app often ignores upi:// links. On iPhone, scan using the Scan button inside GPay, PhonePe or Paytm instead. Android cameras handle it natively.

File → QR

What are the limits?

Up to 20 MB per file, any file type. Links are public and files are auto-deleted after about 24 hours — after that the QR stops working by design. It's built for quick temporary sharing, not permanent hosting.

Is my uploaded file private?

No — the link is public. Anyone who scans the QR or gets the link can download the file until it expires. Never upload IDs, passwords, contracts or anything sensitive.

Why did my upload fail?

Usually one of three things: the file is over 20 MB, the connection dropped mid-upload, or the storage service is briefly unreachable. The status line under the drop zone tells you exactly which. Try again or use a smaller file.

Troubleshooting

My QR is too dense / a wall of tiny squares

There's too much data for the size. Shorten the content (a shorter URL, less text), or lower the error correction level, or print it bigger. Dense codes scan poorly.

The page looks broken / unstyled

Hard-refresh with Ctrl+Shift+R (or clear the site cache). If a single tool fails to generate, a CDN block (ad-blocker or strict privacy extension) is usually blocking the code library — try disabling it for this site.
